A man in a wheelchair was fatally injured by a car while he crossed an Auburn road.
Stephen Mortimer, 57, of Auburn was crossing Center Street, near the Target entrance, about 10:36 p.m. Monday when he was hit by a northbound 2023 Kia Carnival driven by 54-year-old Bryan Paul of Altamonte Springs, Florida, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Mortimer wasn’t in a marked crosswalk and crossed against the flow of traffic, Auburn police said Tuesday.
Mortimer was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
