Police lifted a shelter-in-place order in Saco following a shooting and a car crash on Friday but warned that, as of Friday evening, the four suspects had not been apprehended.

At about 11:57 a.m., police received a report of shots fired between two vehicles at the intersection of Elm and Temple streets in Saco, according to Chief Jack Clements.

Investigators said it was not clear at the time if the shots came from both vehicles.

Immediately after shots were fired, one of the vehicles, a Honda HRV, crashed into a car, which was pushed into an Old Orchard Beach school bus at the intersection of North Street and Elm Street.

The bus had students in it at the time of the crash but none reported injuries.

Police believe that four people fled the crash site. A handgun was found in the crashed car. Investigators believe that at least one of the people who fled the scene and was wearing all dark clothing had been shot in the right arm.

The second vehicle, a red Dodge Charger, was found off Route 25 in Standish, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies searched a residence and the nearby area extensively. Police don’t believe the Saco suspects are in the area and said there are no known threats to Standish residents.

As of Friday at 7:36 p.m., police were still searching for the four suspects using tactical units, dogs and drones.

As a precaution, Saco Schools, including Thornton Academy and Thornton Academy Middle School, Saco Middle School, CK Burns School, Young School, and Fairfield School, were locked down and later dismissed with police supervision.
