A sheriff’s deputy was shot during a Wednesday morning confrontation in Minot.

Androscoggin County sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at a Woodman Hill Road home about 4:05 a.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

During an altercation with a man, one of the deputies was shot in the leg, Moss said Wednesday.

After that altercation, a fire was started at the home, drawing firefighters from surrounding communities.

The man was taken into custody, and there’s no ongoing threat to the public. He was not injured, Moss said. His identity hasn’t been released.

The sheriff’s deputy was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he will undergo surgery. He is expected to survive, Moss said.
