A 24-year-old found dead Monday in a bus outside Waterville Junior High School died by suicide, Waterville police said.
Police received a report at about 4:30 a.m. of a person slumped over the steering wheel of a bus in the school parking lot.
Police identified the person by her legal name, but the victim’s former supervisor said she no longer used it and was known as River Catruch. Her obituary also included her chosen name.
After an autopsy, the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined the victim died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said there was no known connection between the victim and Waterville Public Schools.
This story has been updated to reflect the victim’s chosen name and gender identity.
