The Bangor School Department has opened an investigation into one of its employees.

The school department was “very recently” made aware of a situation involving a staff member that prompted a personnel investigation, said Ray Phinney, a spokesperson for the school district, on Friday.

The school department did not identify the staff member, say where the person works within the school district or disclose what caused the investigation.

“We have committed to a thorough review and will take whatever steps are warranted by what is discovered,” Phinney said. “We are not able to share any confidential personnel decisions or actions.”

Though he didn’t confirm that the employee had been placed on leave, Phinney said it is common for employees to be placed on leave until a “fully informed personnel decision can be made.”
