Concord Coach Lines will discontinue its bus service in Lewiston-Auburn at the end of June.

The company announced on Friday that it will no longer run buses between the twin cities and points north and south, including Augusta, Bangor, Portland and Boston.

The change affects buses running from Bates College, the Great Falls Transportation Center and the Park and Ride lot at Exit 75.

Concord Coach Lines did not immediately say why it’s discontinuing service in Lewiston-Auburn, but a representative at the corporate office said the company is planning to issue a press release on its website in the next day or so that will give more details.

Greyhound currently runs round-trip service from Bangor to Boston, passing through Augusta, Lewiston, Portland and Wells.

The Maine Department of Transportation is also planning to launch a pilot commuter bus service this summer between Lewiston-Auburn and Portland.

MDOT spokesperson Paul Merrill said on Friday that the department hopes to start the new commuter bus service on July 1, the day after Concord Coach Lines service ends. Merrill said that has been the plan and he wasn’t aware that Concord Coach Lines would discontinue service in Lewiston-Auburn until a reporter asked him about it.

This story has been updated to reflect that Greyhound runs offers bus service in Lewiston as part of its Bangor-to-Boston route.
