A 1-mile paving project on Route 1A in Holden is snarling traffic for miles Tuesday.

The project began Tuesday morning and is expected to end Tuesday afternoon, according to Paul Merrill, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Transportation.

“There have been signs out for a little while to notify drivers of the work today,” Merrill said.

The Holden Police Department in a Facebook post on Tuesday advised travelers to use an alternate route.
