A downed line and fire knocked out power to more than 10,000 Down East homes on Saturday afternoon.

The outages were heavily concentrated in the eastern part of Washington County, hitting virtually all residents from Eastport to the Machias area and extending down peninsulas to Lubec, Cutler and Roque Bluffs.

Versant Power sent a notice of the outages at 2:45 p.m. Power was restored to all customers before 5 p.m., Versant spokesperson Judy Long said.

The cause was a downed utility line and fire near East Skunk Ridge Road in Columbia Falls, according to Long.
