The fastest woman in the 2024 TD Beach to Beacon 10K road race in Cape Elizabeth has been disqualified for a doping violation, according to race organizers.

Faith Chepkoech of Kenya was announced the winner of the women’s division for the 2024 race on Aug. 3.

On Thursday, race organizers said Chepkoech had admitted to violating the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules. World Athletics, the international governing body for road racing, subsequently banned Chepkoech from competing for three years.

After the ruling, organizers of the Beach to Beacon 10K revised the race results, giving the win to Edna Kiplagat, of Kenya, who finished 12 seconds behind Chepkoech in August. Cintia Chepngeno, also of Kenya, was promoted to second place, and Susana Sullivan, of the U.S., took third place.
