A bakery based near Bucksport has plans to open another location in central Ellsworth.
Sweet Cheeks Bakery, which opened its first location on Route 1 in Verona Island in 2021, is expanding to the Mill Mall in Ellsworth.
The business made an announcement on Facebook, showing photos of a space at the State Street mall that was formerly occupied by Machias Savings Bank. The new location comes with a drive-through window.
“We have waited a long time to say these words ‘Ellsworth Here We Come!!’” the bakery said. “Boy do we have BIG plans for our newest location!! Stay tuned!”
The bakery specializes in sweets — ranging from muffins and cheesecakes to turnovers, pies, cookies and more — but also sells a few varieties of bread as well as breakfast and lunch specials.
“Oh, I am SCREWED!” one fan posted under the bakery’s Facebook announcement. “Might as well go buy bigger pants right now.”
This past summer, Sweet Cheeks opened a 24-hour self-serve location on Route 1A in Holden. It also has a 24-hour self-serve kiosk at its Verona Island flagship store.
Bakery officials said on Facebook that they plan to have full counter service and a self-serve kiosk in Ellsworth. They said they hope to open the new location in January.
