A Lebanon man was killed Friday evening when the car he was driving crossed into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming pickup truck, police said.

At around 6 p.m., Daniel Dempsey, 39, was driving a 2021 Mazda sedan south on Long Swamp Road in Lebanon when the crash happened, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A passenger in his car, 44-year-old Christina Gagnon of Berwick, suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

The occupants of the pickup truck, a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500, only suffered minor injuries. They were the driver, 22-year-old William Long of South Berwick, and his passenger, 20-year-old Jenna Dixon of Berwick.

Alcohol, speed and reckless driving are believed to have contributed to the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both vehicles appeared to be totaled.
