Republican wins often get Democrats and progressives talking about moving to Canada. After Tuesday’s election, a Bangor TikToker is suggesting Maine instead.
In a video posted on Wednesday, user Hazel Domain (@theehazeldomain) argued that Maine may be boring and remote but it’s socially liberal in spots.
“Are there Trump supporters here? Yes. Can you go more than 20 minutes north and still look visibly queer and feel safe? Not really,” Domain, who identifies as queer, says. “But when somebody defaced our [rainbow] jersey barriers, he got charged with a crime.”
“Maine has legal marijuana, and a constitutional right to abortion,” Domain says. “So yeah, that’s my sales pitch. Maine. It’s kind of like Canada.”
