A 26-year-old allegedly tried to kill his mother at her Belgrade home over the weekend.

Samuel Bell has been charged with attempted murder and elevated aggravated assault, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Bell allegedly shot 58-year-old Christina Bell at her Point Road home about 11:03 a.m. Sunday. Moss said Monday that Christina Bell was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was treated for serious injuries and is expected to survive.

Samuel Bell, who didn’t live at the Point Road home with his parents, left in his vehicle, and troopers arrested him a short distance away on Guptill Road.

He is being held at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.
