A daily light and music show is the newest feature coming to the Bangor holiday tree.
The tree, which was installed in West Market Square and strung with more than 8,000 lights last week, will play holiday music, synced with lights, for the first time this year.
The light and music show on the 36-foot Norway Spruce will premiere at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, the same day as Bangor’s annual “Plaid Friday” event. Plaid Friday is designed to be a more laid-back alternative to Black Friday. Participating businesses downtown will open during their standard hours and offer discounts throughout the day, some of which are only available to shoppers who are wearing plaid.
The 12-minute light and music sequence will be followed by a 30-minute break, then repeat every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the holiday season, according to Besty Lundy, executive director for Downtown Bangor Partnership, which organized the display.
Scott Stitham, technical director for the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine in Orono, programmed and installed the light show and Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway sponsored the display.
Dan Sprague, owner of Sprague’s Nursery & Garden Center, sourced and donated the tree to the city, as he has done for more than 25 years.
