A car became tangled in a cat’s cradle of wires and broken wood on Thursday morning after a crash on a snowy road in Bowdoin.

The vehicle, driven by Richard Mockler, 63, of Lisbon, crashed into another vehicle that had gone off the road before coming to rest on a broken telephone pole.

According to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, A 2017 Nissan Rogue driven by 22-year-old Caroline Wheeler had gone off the road and struck the telephone pole at around 6:45 a.m., causing it to snap in two.

Due to poor visibility and slippery conditions, Mockler was unable to stop when he encountered Wheeler’s vehicle, and he hit the broken telephone pole and downed wires. The vehicle came to rest on one of the broken halves of the telephone pole.

Mockler stayed in the vehicle and waited for Central Maine Power technicians to arrive and deactivate the lines, making it safe to exit the vehicle.

Both vehicles were seriously damaged in the crash, but neither Mockler nor Wheeler were injured in the crash.

West Road was closed for approximately two hours as emergency crews responded to the crash.
