A woman was arrested on Friday after a 14-year-old was found dead outside a home in the Kennebec County town of Sidney.
Just before 5:30 a.m., a woman went to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office to report an incident at her home, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
Deputies from Androscoggin and Kennebec counties went to the residence on Summerhaven Road, where they found a dead 14-year-old boy outside the home, Moss said.
After conducting interviews, police arrested Megan McDonald, 39, and brought her to the Kennebec Correctional Facility where she was charged with murder. Police have not released the identity of the victim.
The state chief medical examiner performed an autopsy and determined the cause of death was a combination of asphyxiation, manual strangulation, and sharp force injury. The death has been ruled a homicide, Moss said.
