A man accused of a deadly 2022 shooting in Portland will serve 12 years in prison.

Tristan Chamberlain, 23, was sentenced in Cumberland County Superior Court on Friday to 21 years in prison with all but 12 suspended, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Chamberlain was accused of shooting Tyler Flexon after a fight on the evening of Nov. 29, 2022, near Sherman and Mellen streets in Portland.

Flexon was brought to Maine Medical Center, where he later died from his wound. His death was ruled a homicide.

Twelve days later, Chamberlain turned himself in at the York County Sheriff’s Office.

A grand jury indicted him for murder. In September, Chamberlain, who has maintained that he shot Flexon in self defense, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a plea deal, according to the Press Herald.

As part of his sentencing on Friday, Chamberlain was ordered to pay $4,500 in restitution and is barred from owning a gun, according to the newspaper.
