America deserves leaders who prioritize the public good, not those pushing extreme agendas that undermine democracy and harm everyday Americans. I believe Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King must reject Russell Vought’s nomination as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
As Donald Trump’s former OMB director, Vought has a track record. He pushed for massive cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security — programs millions of Americans rely on for their health and well-being. I believe he was irresponsible and reckless in nearly causing, along with others, the U.S. to default on its debts, risking economic chaos. He was a chief architect of Project 2025, a dangerous plan to consolidate executive power and politicize federal institutions.
Vought also supports reinstating “Schedule F,” a policy designed to purge federal employees based on ideology, replacing them with partisans, irrespective of qualifications for the job. This policy would result in dangerous division within our government.
Sens. Collins and King have a responsibility to uphold democracy and protect the interests of the American people. For the sake of our nation’s future, they must vote no on Russell Vought’s nomination.
