Caribou firefighters battled an early morning house fire Saturday.

The fire at 50 Baird Road was reported shortly after midnight, after smoke detectors alerted residents to the blaze.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the eves of the house and the attached garage, with heavy smoke inside the home and flames in the attic and a hallway. Everyone was reported out of the house.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the entry and a hall, according to a Facebook post by the Caribou fire and ambulance department.

They believe the fire started in a chimney that had a functioning wood stove, according to the post.  No injuries were reported.

“A great example of how working, properly placed smoke detectors saves lives,” Caribou firefighters wrote in their post.
