A grand jury has indicted a Burnham woman in connection with a fatal crash in the Penobscot County town of Stetson last year.

Jessica McCarthy, 40, was indicted for manslaughter and operating under the influence (drugs or combo), according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened just after midnight on July 5, 2024, on Mullen Road. Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies found that a truck had left the road and crashed into a tree, trapping the two occupants, McCarthy and Dean Long, 29, of Newport.

Long, the passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if McCarthy was injured.

Stetson is about 15 miles northwest of Bangor.

McCarthy has since turned herself into the Penobscot County Jail, where she made bail, according to the sheriff’s office.
