Police arrested a man and charged him with murder after discovering a dead man and another with severe head injuries inside a Norridgewock home late Friday night.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call at around 11:30 p.m. Friday reporting an incident at a residence on Walnut Drive, according to Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss. Deputies found the body and another man with head injuries, Moss said.

Area police departments were notified to look for Kendall Purnell, 38, of Norridgewock, who was seen driving the homeowner’s vehicle, according to Moss.

Waterville Police Department officers at around 1 a.m. Saturday spotted Purnell at a gas station on Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville and brought him to the police station. He was later charged with murder and transported to the Somerset County Jail.

The body was taken to the state chief medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The injured man was brought to Reddington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan and later transported by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he is in critical condition, Moss said.

Police haven’t yet released the names of the victims.
