A Bangor man and an Orrington man are the latest people to be sentenced in connection with a drug trafficking ring that operated in Penobscot and Aroostook counties.

Joshua Jerrell, 30, was sentenced to time served, approximately 36 months, followed by three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty on Feb. 9, 2023, to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and conspiring to make false statements to a federal firearms licensee, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.

Aaron Rodgers, 43, was sentenced to time served, approximately 33 months, followed by three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty on April 9, 2024, to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the DOJ.

From January 2018 to December 2021, Jerrell, Rodgers and others trafficked methamphetamine and fentanyl in Penobscot and Aroostook counties and elsewhere, according to court records cited by the DOJ. The men got the drugs from a source, with whom they communicated by phone, text and social media using coded language. They then distributed the drugs to customers in Penobscot County.

Additionally, in June 2021, Jerrell made false statements to a federal firearms licensee in Holden while trying to get guns for his drug supplier, according to the DOJ.

Twenty-one people have been charged for their roles in what the DOJ called a “widespread northern Maine drug trafficking conspiracy.” Thirteen of the defendants have been sentenced while eight await sentencing:
