Two 1,000-point scorers from Aroostook County, Caribou High School’s Madelynn Deprey and Fort Kent’s Lily Oliver, have been named semifinalists for the Ms. Maine Basketball award.
The Mr. Maine Basketball award semifinalists include Emmitt Byther of Old Town and Gabe Lash of Medomak Valley in Waldoboro.
There are 10 semifinalists for each of these awards, which go to the state’s top senior players.
Joining Deprey and Oliver as Ms. Maine Basketball finalists are Aubrianna Hoose of Oceanside High from Rockland, Brunswick’s Lexi Morin, Cony High of Augusta’s Abby Morrill, Kytana Williamson of Medomak Valley, Oxford Hills of South Paris’ Ella Pelletier, Gorham’s Julia Reed, Gray-New Gloucester’s Izzy Morelli and Spruce Mountain of Jay’s Avery Bessey.
Joining Byther and Lash as Mr. Maine Basketball semifinalists are Spruce Mountain’s Jace Bessey, Cheverus of Portland’s Leo McNabb, Edward Little of Auburn’s Diing Maiwen, Kennebunk’s Theo Pow, Noble of North Berwick’s Jamier Rose, South Portland’s Manny Hidalgo, Thornton Academy of Saco’s Wyatt Benoit and Windham’s Creighty Dickson.
As outlined by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches, these awards go to the senior player who has exhibited outstanding skills throughout their career; has made a significant impact on their team; has demonstrated respect for the game through leadership on and off the court; has epitomized the values of sportsmanship and has been a positive school and community citizen.
A five-member selection committee will whittle the 10 semifinalists for each award to three finalists. The winners will be announced at the McDonald’s Seniors All-Star Weekend banquet at the Anah Shrine Temple in Bangor on March 7.
Ellsworth’s Chance Mercier and Cheverus’ Maddie Fitzpatrick were the recipients last season.
