The Calais Lady Blue Devils added their own upset win Tuesday over Mount View after the Calais boys outlasted Machias the night before.

The fifth-seeded Calais girls made an impressive comeback in the fourth quarter, earning a 36-30 win over the fourth-seeded Mount View team.

It may not have been as big of an upset as the boys game, in which the No. 7 Blue Devils downed the No. 2 Bulldogs 48-47 in overtime, but it was every bit as exciting.

Senior guard Kayleigh Scott led scoring for Calais with 14 points, including some key points in the fourth quarter. She hit a runner in the lane to cut the Mount View lead to one with about two minutes left, made a big layup off a Calais steal, and added the final two points for the Lady Blue Devils with free throws.

“We looked up at the scoreboard and we saw it was almost over,” Scott said after the win. “It was the last quarter. It’s all we’re going to get, so we gave it our all. We had to put shots up, we had to rebound. And we did just that.”

Sophomore guard Olivia Turner had nine points for Calais. Senior guard Arianna Bradeen led Mount View scorers with 14.

Asked if the Calais girls drew any inspiration from the boys’ win the night before, Scott said her team was watching on TV and rooting the boys on from home.

“We wanted to feel the way they did, so we came out and gave it everything we got,” Scott said.
