Senior guard Madelynn Deprey, who led the Caribou High School girls basketball team to its first regional championship since 1984, is one of three Miss Maine Basketball finalists.

She joins Oxford Hills of South Paris’ Ella Pelletier and Brunswick’s Lexi Morin.

The Mr. Maine Basketball finalists are Medomak Valley of Waldoboro’s Gabe Lash, Thornton Academy of Saco’s Wyatt Benoit and Noble High of North Berwick’s Jamier Rose.

Deprey and Morin would be the first winners from their respective schools. Julia Colby from Oxford Hills won it in 2020.

Rose would be the first recipient from Noble. Will Davies from Thornton Academy was the Mr. Maine Basketball winner in 2023 and Josh Nash from Medomak Valley earned the honor in 1995.

The winners will be announced at the McDonald’s Seniors All-Star Weekend banquet at the Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor on March 7.

Deprey, who will play her college basketball at Division II Southern New Hampshire University in the fall, poured in a total of 56 points in Caribou’s three Class B North tournament victories.

In the regional championship game win over Erskine Academy of South China she had 18 points, nine rebounds and two steals. That followed a victory over Ellsworth in which she had 17 points, 13 rebounds and four steals.

She poured in 21 points in the quarterfinal win over rival Presque Isle. That performance earned her a spot on the Bangor Daily News’ list of dominant performances earlier in the tournament.

Deprey led the Big East Conference in scoring during the regular season with 21.7 points per game. She also had 7.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.4 steals.

Following Caribou’s win over Erskine Academy, Deprey said, “Words can’t describe it. It’s so unbelievable. I am so proud of this team. We’ve worked so hard to be where we are. It’s really awesome.”
