The Bangor-area company that owns and operates eight convenience stores plans to add another on Ellsworth’s main commercial drag.

Dysart’s, known primarily for its restaurant and truck stop next to Interstate 95 in Hermon, has plans to build a ninth Travel Stop convenience store on High Street in Ellsworth.

The Hermon-based company purchased the former Branch Pond Marine property last May from PA Jude Real Estate LLC. The marine supply company, located next to DQ Grill & Chill, wound down after more than 50 years in business at the end of 2023 and officially closed the following April, The Ellsworth American reported last year.

The sale price for the 1.76-acre property was $880,000, according to information posted online by Coldwell Banker Realty. In 2023, Dysart’s purchased Ellsworth Car Wash, directly next door to Branch Pond Marine, for $787,500, according to the city’s property tax records. Both gasoline and diesel have been sold at the car wash for decades.

The company is now proposing to combine and redevelop the properties, which together add up to 2.8 acres. Preliminary plans for the project are scheduled to be presented to the city’s planning board on Wednesday, April 2.

“The proposal is to construct a convenience store, car wash and retail space,” the agenda for the meeting says.

High Street is the city’s main commercial strip, where on average tens of thousands of cars pass by each day throughout the year.

Other Travel Stop stores operated by Dysart’s include locations in Bangor, Hampden, Holden, Lincoln, Newburgh, Old Town, Orono and Pittsfield, according to the company’s website.
