Regarding Laurel Libby and her fight against transgender athletes, for me she has lost all credibility as an adversary regarding transgender athletes. When she brought this topic up in public, she used the name, photograph and hometown of a minor for her political gain.

That public action essentially placed a target on that athlete. That athlete’s school felt that additional security was needed. I believe Laurel Libby has shown extraordinarily poor judgment. All children should be completely off limits.

That is especially true in the often hostile political climate we have now. I would have expected more of Libby since she has children. If any harm should come to this person, which I pray does not, I think the responsibility is Laurel Libby’s.

If I had my way, she would no longer be a member of the Maine Legislature. I think she should be banned from holding any other public office. But I don’t have that power. A special election should be held to fill her legislative seat.

I applaud the Maine House of Representatives for censuring her.
