Rep. Jared Golden was one of only four Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives to vote in favor of the “SAVE” Act, the most restrictive voting rights law passed in decades. It would require proof of citizenship via a passport or birth certificate that matches your current last name. According to the Brennan Center For Justice, at least 21 million Americans lack ready access to those documents.

I think the “SAVE” Act is a solution looking for a problem, as non-citizens voting is exceedingly rare. It would erect a significant barrier to exercising the fundamental right in a democracy to cast a vote.

The U.S. Senate has yet to consider the bill, so there’s ample time to let Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins know you are opposed to restricting the rights of millions of Americans to simply vote.
