A pedestrian was seriously injured Thursday morning after a pickup truck hit him near Bath Iron Works.
The 27-year-old Bath man was in the crosswalk on Commercial Street, near the intersection with King Street and the onramp for the Route 1 bridge, about 6:40 a.m. when the 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck hit him, according to Bath Police Chief Andrew Booth.
The pedestrian was walking to work at the shipyard, while the pickup truck’s driver, a 23-year-old Wiscasset man, was just getting off a late shift from there.
Booth said the morning sun’s glare likely contributed to the crash.
The pedestrian was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
