Two people were injured Friday morning when their vehicles collided along Route 3 in Liberty, according to Fire Chief William Gillespie.
The two pickup trucks were totaled in the crash, which was reported around 7 a.m. The drivers were taken to Maine Health Waldo Hospital in Belfast, but Gillespie did not share more information about their conditions or identities. The crash happened next to the Circle K gas station at 498 Route 3, which is also Belfast-Augusta Road.
Gillespie didn’t share more about the cause of the crash.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office could not immediately be reached for comment.
Lori Mayer, who owns a restaurant next to the Circle K, said in an interview that the crash produced “a big boom that shook the cafe.” She ran out afterward and said one of the drivers appeared badly injured.
