Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is planning to open its fourth Maine restaurant in Augusta.

The Miami-based national fried chicken chain is aiming to build the new restaurant on the site of a former Friendly’s off Western Avenue, the Kennebec Journal reported.

The city’s Planning Board on Tuesday approved a minor development permit for the 2,536-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru, according to the newspaper.

Popeyes currently has three other Maine locations, in West Gardiner, South Portland and Kennebunk.
