Broadway will be closed at Interstate 95 for overnight roadwork Wednesday and Thursday.

That closure will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights as a part of the multi-year Bangor Broadway Bridge Project, the city of Bangor announced Tuesday.

Road crews will place signs directing traffic and marking detours.

In its initial stage, the project is set to replace the north- and southbound 152-foot steel girder bridge that crosses over Broadway. The bridge was originally built in 1960. This latest stage of the construction will allow crews to move steel beams into place, officials said.

In total, the project will cost $30.6 million, roughly $9.3 million of which is covered by a federal grant. The Maine Department of Transportation awarded the project to Massachusetts contractor New England Infrastructure Inc. in 2023.

Construction is set to be complete in late 2026, according to the Maine Department of Transportation, and will “enhance” intersections at Broadway and Alden Street and intersections at Broadway, Earl Avenue and Central Street, along with realigning southbound on- and offramps.
