Burns

David Burns was selected Maine County Commissioner of June in honor of his community service by Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter.

Burns currently serves as chair of Washington County’s Board of Commissioners. Prior to that he was a member of the Maine State Senate for four years and a member of the Maine House of Representatives for four years.

Since the 1990s Burns has contributed his expertise to town and county budget committees, as well as the local planning board. In fact he has served as chair of Whiting’s Planning Board for years.

Burns also has served 25 years on school boards (six years with SAD 77 and 19 with the Washington Academy Board of Trustees).

A retired Maine state trooper (after 24 years of service), he was a leader in an effort to dedicate portions of Maine highways to fallen troopers.

“My wife and I have always been involved in volunteer work, whether in our church or our community,” Burns said. “Though time consuming, it is very rewarding and educational. We believe it is what causes communities to function best for their citizens.”

Maine Spirit of America is a chapter of Spirit of America Foundation, an organization promoting community service. For more information, visit https://spiritofamerica.website.
