A geodesic dome house on Mount Desert Island is for sale.
The 2,454-square-foot single-family home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and sits on roughly two acres near Myrtle Ledge in Mount Desert.
The first floor of the spherical home is an open concept with a sunken living room and woodstove in the center, according to the listing. Lofts in the space allow the home to have multiple levels and a wraparound porch circles the dome’s exterior.
The property sits off Parker Farm Road, has a detached two-car garage and a separate octagonal space that could be used as a workshop or studio.
With an asking price of $775,000 the property falls under the median home value for Mount Desert, which sits at more than $913,000, according to Zillow. Home values in the community have dropped slightly since reaching a five-year high of nearly $938,000 late last year.

The spherical house is a geodesic dome — a circle created by an interlocking triangle pattern. Beth Ingebritson, a broker at the Knowles Company, which is listing the property, believes it’s one of only two geodesic dome houses on Mount Desert Island.
American architect Buckminster Fuller began making buildings in this shape in the 1940s to be an affordable and efficient solution to a nationwide need for housing, according to the Buckminster Fuller Institute.
The structures were appealing at the time because they required fewer materials to create. The homes are also more efficient to heat or cool while also being strong and able to withstand natural disasters.
The Mount Desert property was built in 1972 and designed by Monterey Domes, a company that gained popularity in the 1970s by manufacturing geodesic dome houses.
