The Dallas Mavericks officially introduced number one overall pick Cooper Flagg at his first press conference with the team on Friday afternoon.

Flagg was in Dallas Friday and was expected to join with General Manager Nico Harrison and head coach Jason Kidd for an introductory press conference around 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

The trio was expected to discuss “the hopes for the future of the team,” according to the Maverick’s YouTube page.

Flagg had long been considered the consensus number one pick in the draft, and when Dallas defied the odds and won the NBA draft lottery in May, it quickly became clear that the Texas team would embrace the chance to draft the generational talent from Newport, Maine.

Flagg joins a Dallas lineup that, when healthy, could prove formidable in the NBA’s Western Conference. The team has a strong core of experienced veterans including big man Anthony Davis, shooting guard Klay Thompson and point guard Kyrie Irving, who will be out to start the season as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

“I’m excited to be a sponge — to get down there and just learn, be surrounded by Hall of Fame-caliber guys,” Flagg said about playing in Dallas during a draft night press conference Wednesday night. “Just to be able to learn from them is going to be an incredible experience.”
