Update: Police are calling the death “suspicious.”

UNION, Maine — Rescuers located the body of a person who had been missing overnight after going out on Crawford Pond.

The Maine State Police is investigating the death but could not provide additional details Thursday morning.

Union Rescue sent out a boat on Crawford Pond at the boat launch at Mic Mac Cove Campground shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday to search for a paddleboarder. A half later, Union requested assistance from the Rockland Fire Department for its aerial drone.

Rockland arrived shortly after 2 a.m.

The Maine Warden Service joined the search about an hour later. The body was found at dawn by a searcher.

The search began after someone went out earlier on the 600-acre pond and had not returned.

More information will be published when it becomes available.
