A body was found Wednesday evening in the Kennebec River in Bath.

A witness on Crawford Island spotted the body on nearby Woods Island, where the Maine Marine Patrol recovered it about 6 p.m., according to the Maine Department of Marine Resources.

The body has been taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta.

That comes amid the search for 22-year-old Robert Stolt of Augusta, who has been missing since Sunday when he tried to rescue his dog after it jumped from his 23-foot boat in the river near Lines Island, where Stolt was fishing.

An animal control officer later rescued the dog on Lines Island, while boaters helped a woman and a second dog still aboard the boat after Stolt went into the water. She was treated for minor injuries and released.

Woods Island is near where Stolt disappeared in the Kennebec River.
