The former box factory at 75 South Main St. in Brewer will be turned into a boutique hotel, restaurant and cafe, according to the city. The factory has been owned by the same Dedham resident since 2000 and has been talked about for development or reuse for more than a decade.

The building was bought by a local developer who plans to redevelop the site into a boutique hotel in the current building with a restaurant and cafe, according to information in the city’s 2026 budget. The site will have direct access to the Brewer Riverwalk.

City officials did not disclose when the property was bought or who the developer was. The developer refused to comment when contacted by a Brewer city official on behalf of the Bangor Daily News.

The hotel would be one of fewer than five in Brewer and the closest to the Penobscot River. The restaurant would also join High Tide and Mason’s Brewing Company as the third restaurant on the Brewer Riverwalk.

The note in the city budget did not give an opening date for the new businesses or offer any other details.
