A Brewer man was arrested Monday after he allegedly led Bangor police on a chase in a stolen car.
Austin Gardner, 18, has been charged with robbery, eluding an officer, theft, reckless conduct, failure to stop, driving to endanger, refusing to submit to arrest and operating after suspension, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.
Gardner allegedly grabbed car keys from someone he knows, and that person tried to get them back. But Gardner then took the car without permission and left, McAmbley said Tuesday.
When police found him, Gardner led officers on a chase until he went off the road and fled into the woods. He was found after a short search and arrested.
Gardner was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Tuesday morning, according to the jail’s website.
