Bangor City Hall will be closed on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8.

The closure dates were announced on Thursday evening. The hall will open back up to the public on Aug. 11, with new hours of operation.

Starting on Aug. 11, City Hall will close at 4:15 p.m., according to the city.

The City Council approved that change this week in an effort to cut down on overtime in the clerk and treasurer office, which has seen a steady increase in customers arriving at close of business, currently 4:30 p.m. That has required staff to regularly work overtime to assist those residents.

The department’s budget doesn’t have funding to cover this overtime.

Bangor hopes that the move will reduce the need for overtime and give staff time to assist waiting customers.

City Hall will continue to open at 8 a.m.

The change takes effect when City Hall   moves back to its Harlow Street home after the completion of extensive renovations.
