Update: Police on Monday identified the victim as Nicholas Disy, 52, of Milford, Pennsylvania.

A man died Sunday when his vehicle left the road and ignited in Bowdoinham, Maine State Police said.

The man, whom police did not identify, was traveling south on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham at around 4 p.m., Maine public safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Sunday night.

Multiple people reported a fire on the road at mile 37. Police located a vehicle off the road in the median.

Investigators believe the driver left the road and veered into the median, rapidly striking several trees, at which point the vehicle caught fire, Moss said.

Police are not releasing the driver’s name until the family is notified.

No other vehicles were involved and the man was the vehicle’s only occupant.
