Labor Day is Monday, and a number of offices and businesses will be closed across Maine.

Most grocery stores, like Hannaford, and other retailers such as Walmart will be open, but you should check specific locations for any change in hours.

Here’s what’s closed on Monday.

State offices

State of Maine government offices will be closed on Monday, including all courts and administrative offices.

The exception is the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Child Services, which operates its intake services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Those services can be reached by calling 1-800-452-1999.

According to the Department of Labor, weekly payments may take longer to arrive.

City and town halls

Maine government offices, including local government offices, will be closed on Monday. This includes city and town halls.

Town services such as trash pickup or dropoff may be impacted, so make sure to check your local announcements.

Federal offices

Post offices across the country will be closed on Monday. Both incoming and outgoing mail will still be processed at distribution centers, but local offices will not be open to the public.

Mailing services

UPS and FedEx will not be making deliveries on Monday.

Banks

Banks are traditionally closed on federal holidays, including Labor Day.

Other

Costco in Scarborough will be closed Monday, along with the store’s other locations.

The Maine Lottery office will be closed Monday.
