A Bangor man allegedly used a Maryland resident’s stolen identity to take money from their bank account.
Dustin Elwin Lawrence, 46, has been charged with fraud and theft, according to Garrett County (Maryland) Sheriff Bryson Meyers.
Deputies began investigating Lawrence on Aug. 28 after an Oakland resident’s identity was stolen and money withdrawn from their bank account, Meyers said Tuesday afternoon.
Lawrence was arrested on Aug. 30 in Monongalia County in West Virginia, where he allegedly committed similar crimes.
He is being held at the North Central Regional Jail in Greenwood, West Virginia, where he awaits extradition to Maryland.
