A woman from China, Maine, was killed Tuesday morning after the SUV she was driving crashed on Route 3 in Searsmont, rolled down an embankment and struck a tree, according to police. No other people were in the vehicle.
The woman, whom police have not identified, was driving the 2013 Honda CR-V east on Belfast Augusta Road East — also known as Route 3 — when she lost control on a curved section of the road, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle crossed the centerline, left the road and struck a tree head-on, flipping it over.
It occurred between the intersections with Thompson Ridge and New England roads.
The circumstances of the crash were not suspicious, according to police.
Searsmont Fire Chief James Ames said the victim may have suffered a medical incident around the time of the crash.
Maine State Police’s crash reconstruction team assisted with the investigation.
