An Augusta man has been arrested in connection with a Monday traffic stop that turned up explosives.
Nicholas Presby, 43, has been charged with criminal use of explosives, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Presby was in a vehicle stopped on Main Street in Newcastle just after midnight Monday. During that stop, Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies found explosives, Moss said Wednesday afternoon.
A Maine State Police tactical team helped execute a search warrant at a Wiscasset Road home in Pittston about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. Presby was at the home during the search and arrested without incident. He did not live at the address.
Moss said that Route 27, also known as Dresden Road, remained closed Wednesday afternoon as a large law enforcement presence remains in the Pittston and Randolph area.
Out of an abundance of caution, Pittston-Randolph Consolidated School went into lockdown, which was lifted before the afternoon.
There is no threat to the public, and the investigation is ongoing.
