Nine people are running for three open seats on Bangor’s City Council — the biggest pool of council candidates since 2019.

With such a large group of contenders, none of whom have served on the council before, it can be hard to keep track of where each one stands on the issues that matter most to Bangor residents.

The Bangor Daily News asked each candidate about how they would address four issues that voters have said they care about: homelessness, housing, municipal spending and public safety. Click on the stories below to hear directly from the candidates, in video form, about their positions on these issues.

The aspiring councilors represent a wide variety of political beliefs and hope to join a council that has become increasingly chaotic in recent months amid infighting between elected officials and the resignation of the former chair.

The BDN has profiled all nine candidates. You can read more about them here: Daniel Carson, James Gallagher, Angela Walker, Justin Cartier, Reese Perkins, Steven Farren, Richard Ward, Susan Faloon and Colleen O’Neal.

Early voting has begun. Election Day voting is held on Nov. 4 at the Cross Insurance Center. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Correction: A photo caption on an earlier version of this report misidentified Angela Walker’s last name.
