A smattering of vibrant leaves can be seen in Lincolnville in October 2025.

As the daylight gets shorter and the nights get colder, Maine is approaching the end of its leaf-peeping season.

According to the final foliage report from the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, around 70% of the state has seen leaves drop from trees. Some vibrant colors can still be seen along the coast and in southern Maine, but the peak of the sightseeing season has passed for central and northern Maine.

“This is ‘Maine’s weekend,’” said Gale Ross, Maine’s fall foliage spokesperson.

“Even past peak remains beautifully colorful and photo-worthy. As Vacationland prepares to put the trees to bed and we wrap up another fall foliage season, let’s thank all of the leaf lovers and everyone who celebrates Maine in the fall.”

Although the state saw moderate and extreme drought conditions throughout the summer, Maine still saw a vibrant display of leaves throughout September and early October.
