A 32-year-old Down East man died after crashing his car in the Hancock County town of Sullivan, Tuesday morning.
The crash was reported at 10:39 a.m. on Route 1 near the intersection with Taunton Drive, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Gared L. Birdtail, 32, of Milbridge, Maine, and Michigan, was driving west on Route 1 at what witnesses described as high speed and failed to make a curve in the road, according to the sheriff’s office.
His car, a 2010 Dodge Avenger, went off the right side of the road and down an embankment where it hit a tree, rolled onto its roof and hit another tree before coming to rest.
Birdtail, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
