The Maine high school field hockey season is nearing the finish line this week, and two teams from the North region still have a chance at winning every single game they’ve played this season.

Both the Belfast Area High School Lions and Foxcroft Academy Ponies are heading into their regional championship games on Wednesday with perfect 16-0 records. They each won 14 games during the regular season and have won two playoff games so far.

Belfast is the top ranked team in Class B North, and will play No. 3 Nokomis Regional High School of Newport at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hampden Academy.

Foxcroft Academy is No. 1 in Class C North and will face off against No. 3 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, also at Hampden Academy.

Nokomis heads into the regional final with a record of 14-2 and MCI is 10-6 between the regular season and playoffs.

Perennial Class A powerhouse Skowhegan has worked its way back to a familiar place in the North regional title game. Skowhegan had won the North title for 22 straight years until Brewer upended that run a year ago. The River Hawks are back and nearly perfect themselves, having not lost a game all season but recording two ties — one against their Wednesday regional final opponent Mt. Ararat of Topsham.

That Class A North final will also be played at Hampden Academy.
