Sophomore striker Georgie Stephenson has scored a lot of goals in her short Bangor High School career but probably none as memorable as her goal in the 4-1 victory over Camden Hills of Rockport in the Class A North final on Tuesday night at Cameron Stadium.

It was early in the second half and Bangor was holding a 2-1 lead.

Following a scramble in the Brunswick penalty area, the ball was rolling toward the outside of the penalty area to the left hand side.

She spun around, chipped it with her weaker left foot and it floated over the head of goalie Eliza Gallant and landed in the upper far corner.

It was her 35th goal of the season.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Bangor coach Jay Kemble. “Left foot, outside the goal box, back over her shoulder into that right corner. She is such a tremendous athlete. She is so powerful with her left and right foot. She does a lot of really, really good things.”

Camden Hills coach Meredith Messer called the goal “gorgeous” after the game.

“You can’t expect a goalkeeper to save that,” added Messer.

Stephenson said she put “every last ounce of energy” she had into the play.

“I sprinted to it. She beat me to it and, honestly, it was just effort,” Stephenson said. “I just whacked it. I placed it.”
